Arrests made after assault on aboriginal fisherman

Two men have been arrested in connections with the assault on an Alberni aboriginal fisherman that left him with a severely broken leg.

Arrests have been made in the assault on an aboriginal fisherman from Port Alberni last weekend.

Port Alberni RCMP Cpl. Jenn Allan confirmed that two men were arrested on Monday in connection with the incident.

Details about who was charged and with what are forthcoming, Allan said.

Hupacasath tribe member Bert McCarthy, 41, was assaulted by four men outside of the Petrocan station on River Road on Saturday night.

McCarthy suffered a severely broken leg in the incident and was in Nananimo General Hospital.
