Bike to Work Week in Port Alberni started with an Adult Urban Bike Skills course taught by former Canadian National Cycling Team member Steve Lund at the Echo Centre on Sunday. Through classroom sessions and on-the-road training, participants improved their ability to ride safely in traffic.

The official kick-off for Bike to Work Week took place at Ozzie’s Cycle on Monday morning with a pancake breakfast.

Various celebration stations will be held across town all week. To find out more, check out biketowork.ca/port-alberni.

Wood Elementary School students will also be participating as a class and biking to school on Monday and Thursday mornings to attend the celebration stations.

A children’s bike rodeo will take place at the Echo Centre on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration is $5 per child.

The final bike parade and wrap-up event will be on Sunday, June 4. Bike decorating starts at 11 a.m. at the Echo Centre, and the parade starts at 11:30. The wrap-up event, featuring prizes, awards, food and music, will take place from 12-2 p.m. at Harbour Quay.
