The Conservative Party's James Lunney has retained his seat in Nanaimo-Alberni.
All 2011 election results, it must be noted, are not official until Elections Canada confirms them. Hence, some of the following numbers are close estimates as of the time stated.
Lunney, the incumbent MP for the mid-Vancouver Island riding, stormed ahead of the NDP's Zeni Maartman in the latter part of the evening's election and did not look back
As of 10:30 p.m. Monday night, Lunney was leading by more than 4,000 votes, with around 27,300.
Maartman was in second place after having started the evening strong, with close to 22,300 votes as of 10:30 p.m.
The Liberal Party has overtaken the Green Party for third in the riding. Liberal Renee Miller has 4,450, while Green Party candidate Myron Jespersen had 4,000.
Jesse Schroeder of the Pirate Party has 334 votes. Frank Wagner, Christian Heritage Party, has 80 votes. Barbara Biley, Marxist Leninist, has 71 votes.
This is in 277 out of 306 polls in the riding.
The population of the riding is 121,434. There are an estimated 97,661 registered voters.
Lunney has held the riding since 2000. In the 2008 federal election, he earned 28,930 votes, almost 47 per cent of the riding's votes.
Maartman challenged Lunney for the second time. In 2008, her first time in the race, she earned 19,680 votes or 31 per cent of the ballots.
New to the race for 2011 are Miller and Jespersen.
