Port Alberni’s Darren DeLuca will run for MLA for the BC Liberals in the May election.

Darren DeLuca has been chosen by local party members as the BC Liberal candidate for Mid Island-Pacific Rim in the upcoming provincial election.

DeLuca ran against Bowser resident Stephen Cross and was chosen on March 11.

“It’s time for change with new energy and strong representation for Alberni, the Mid Island and Pacific Rim,” said DeLuca in a March 11 press release. “We’ve been left behind for too long. It’s time for us to be a part of BC’s economic success story attracting investment and creating jobs while protecting our environment for future generations.”

Active in community service and non-profit efforts, DeLuca has served for six years on the Port Alberni Port Authority and is currently a member-at-large of the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Highway 4 Transportation Committee. He is a director of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Junior A hockey team and vice-president of the Guide Outfitters Association of BC.

“This region has given me a great life and by running for MLA, I’m looking to give back,” DeLuca added. “We need a strong voice who will deliver for this region, and that’s what I’ll do if I’m elected.”

The provincial election will be held on May 9.
