The Port Alberni Friendship Center will be opening the doors to its new daycare ?iihmisuk taatne?is (Treasure Our Young Ones) next week.

“We’re projecting being open Jan. 23,” said executive director Cyndi Stevens.

“We’re just waiting on our license number from VIHA, and then we can begin registration.”

The Friendship Center also plans to hold a grand opening for the daycare around the end of January or beginning of February.

The newly-constructed building, located beside the Friendship Center on Fourth Avenue, features wide-open rooms, with spaces for babies, toddlers, preschoolers and an after-school program. It also has a kitchen and laundry room.

The daycare is currently looking for donations of gently used or new toys, books, coats, hats and slippers.

“Things that kids might not have on their own at the daycare,” Stevens explained.

The centre is always accepting donations of money, as well.

The daycare will be open to 50 children, and registration is open to the whole community.

If anyone is interested in registering their child, they can phone the main line for the Friendship Center at 250-723-8281 and ask for Kristin or Brenda.
