Grand re-opening for tattoo shop

Tattoo artist Rachel Rose will hold an open house at her new South Port studio, Ocean Valley Ink, this Friday, Feb. 10.

Tattoo artist Rachel Rose will hold an open house at her new South Port studio, Ocean Valley Ink, this Friday, Feb. 10.

Rose purchased the old Silver Tiger Tattoo studio at 2974 Third Ave. last November. “We’ve been open since Nov. 1, but under a different name,” Rose explained.

Rose moved from Ontario to the Alberni Valley in 2008. She has been tattooing professionally since she was 19 and completed an apprenticeship in Barrie, Ont.

When she’s not in her studio, surfing (the allure of west coast waves drew her to B.C.) or behind her camera taking adventure photographs, Rose is also a painter. Her work was recently featured at Art Matters at Harbour Quay.

Ocean Valley Ink will be open for business from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rose will close for a few hours to prepare for her opening, which will take place from 5–10 p.m. Musician Zack Hodge will provide entertainment, and refreshments will be served.
