A Faber Road home caught fire in the early hours of Sept. 11.

An early Sunday morning structure fire on Faber Road heavily damaged a house and sent one woman to hospital. The fire was called in around 6 a.m.

“It was a one-storey (house) with a basement. The fire broke out by the back porch,” said Sproat Lake Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Cann.

The blaze triggered an automatic mutual response and six trucks from Sproat Lake and one each from Beaver Creek and the city department responded.

The fire was called in after a neighbour saw smoke coming from the residence, and alerted the two residents.

It was initially fought with a garden hose before fire crews arrived.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, it was likely electrical in nature, Cann said.

“It’s pretty uncommon but there is the odd one,” he said.  “One occupant was taken to hospital.”
