Impaired NYE driver found with children

A Port Alberni man, who was driving with two young children in his vehicle, was pulled over on New Years Eve for driving erratically.

The Ministry of Family and Chilren and Family Development has been notified after a New Year’s Eve incident when an impaired driver was found with two young children in the car.

A Port Alberni RCMP member was on patrol on Third Avenue Saturday night when he came across an SUV being driven erratically.  The member proceeded to stop the vehicle, and an investigation revealed that the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The 60-year-old Port Alberni man had two young passengers with him at the time, an eight-year-old and a nine-year-old.

The driver was issued a 90-day Immediate Roadside Driving Prohibition, a 30-Day Vehicle Impoundment and a Violation Ticket for speeding before the vehicle was towed away.

Both children were driven to their home by RCMP, according to Cpl. Amelia Hayden.
