Island business awards deadline Dec. 1

The nomination deadline is Dec. 1 for the 17th Annual Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards.

Has your business had a good 2016? Or do you know of a business that needs to be celebrated for their accomplishments this year?

If so, the nomination deadline is Dec. 1 for the 17th Annual Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards, which honours the best of the best in Island business Jan. 26 in Victoria.

“These awards have always been about shining the spotlight on worthy and interesting companies,” notes Mark MacDonald of Business Examiner, which coordinates the event. “Each year we are impressed by the quality and quantity of businesses that are worthy of celebrating, and we expect this year to be one of our best ever.”

A number of Alberni Valley-based businesses have been  nominated for and won Island excellence awards over the years.

Black Press is a Platinum Sponsor of the BE Awards this year, and RBC Royal Bank and Hayes Stewart Little & Co. Chartered Professional Accountants are back as Gold Sponsors.

Categories this year include: Agriculture, Automotive, Construction/ Development, Entrepreneur, Forestry/Wood Products, Green, Health, Hospitality/Tourism, Manufacturer, Ocean Products, Professional (legal, accounting, insurance), Real Estate, Retail, Small Business (under 50 employees), Technology, Trades and Business of the Year (over 50 employees).

“Each year, it seems that the nominations are nearly evenly split between companies south of the Malahat, and those from north of the Malahat, and this year is no different,” says MacDonald.

“That’s not surprising, as the population of both areas are very close, but it also shows the strength of the economy on Vancouver Island is spread out.”

The nomination deadline is Dec. 1 this year, and companies can self-nominate. There is no charge.

Nomination forms can be downloaded at www.businessexaminer.ca/events, and click through Vancouver Island Business Excellence Awards.
