The city is looking at increasing security at the Klitsa ballfields fieldhouse after it had its locks glued for the second year in a row, city of Port Alberni facilities operations supervisor Mark Zenko said.

"We're looking at beefing up security."

"We're frustrated," said Vicky Seredick, president of the Alberni Valley Junior Baseball Association. "It's not a good thing when you come here at five o'clock and you've got the parents and kids waiting and you're greeted with this it's a little... it's just senseless vandalism is what it is."

It's also expensive, Zenko said.

"It is city property and we all our taxes and this is an unfortunate way to have to spend tax money."

The glue used by the perpetrators last spring was too strong to be dissolved, leading the city to have to call a locksmith to replace parts of the lock. The cost to taxpayers was over $1000 for the six locks that had to be fixed.

"They only did two this time, last year they did the whole building. They locked the whole building tight.," Zenko said. The cost to replace the two lock cylinders this year will be approximately $400, he added.

Anyone with any information on the crime is asked to call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
