Male arrested in Alberni teen’s assault

A Port Alberni man was arrested Wednesday in connection to the sexual assault of a teenager. Charges have not been laid.

Port Alberni RCMP has arrested a local man in connection to the sexual assault of a teenage girl by Roger Creek Park on Tuesday.

The man was arrested near Latham Road at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The identity of the man has not been released as charges have not been laid. The man is expected to be either charged or released by this evening. No further information was provided by the RCMP.

“A person has been arrested and this is still an active and ongoing investigation,” said RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Jen Allan. “We hope to hear from individuals in the community who might have information.”

Allan added tips from the public helped in arresting this man within 24 hours of the incident and she encourages anyone with information to continue contacting them by calling Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
