Find out where the Mid Island-Pacific Rim provincial candidates stand on the topics of youth and education during an all-candidates meeting at Alberni District Secondary School on Wednesday, April 26.

The ADSS Model United Nations Club, which is made up of six students in Grades 11 and 12, will be hosting an all candidates meeting at the ADSS theatre from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. The event will be entirely run and organized by students.

“They’re doing all of it,” emphasized ADSS instructor Anne Ostwald.

Ostwald said all of her classes have held all-candidates meetings in the past for elections, whether the elections are municipal, federal or provincial.

“I just share a bit of my knowledge and the kids run with it,” she said. “Every year it’s a different flavour based on the level of government and the kids who are running it.”

She added, “These guys are quite professional.”

This is the first year the students have come up with a theme for the meeting. Students will ask candidates four questions discussing youth, education, reconciliation and employment, and then there will be an open mic for the audience to ask questions of their own. All four candidates have confirmed their attendance at the event.

“It’s for the public,” said Ostwald. “And we’re really hoping to fill the theatre.”
