The collision happened in the afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 17, Oceanside RCMP Const. Shannon Cutler noted in a press release.

One vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Am, was traveling west when the driver, a 42-year-old woman from Port Alberni lost control, causing her vehicle to cross the roadway into oncoming traffic. The Grand Am collided with an oncoming car in the eastbound lane.

The female driver of the Grand Am was airlifted from the scene to Victoria General Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Port Alberni Hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
