One dead in head-on collision on Hwy 4 at Cameron Lake

A woman from Port Alberni has died following a collision Nov. 17 at Cameron Lake.

A woman from Port Alberni has died as a result of a head-on collision on Highway 4 at Cameron Lake.

The collision happened in the afternoon on Saturday, Nov. 17, Oceanside RCMP Const. Shannon Cutler noted in a press release.

One vehicle, a Pontiac Grand Am, was traveling west when the driver, a 42-year-old woman from Port Alberni lost control, causing her vehicle to cross the roadway into oncoming traffic. The Grand Am collided with an oncoming car in the eastbound lane.

The female driver of the Grand Am was airlifted from the scene to Victoria General Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to Port Alberni Hospital and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The B.C. Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the deceased.

The highway was closed for several hours. The Vernon Vipers, who were on their way to Port Alberni to play in a B.C. Hockey League game, were caught on the Parksville side of the road closure and their game with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs was delayed by 45 minutes.

Oceanside RCMP are asking for any witnesses with information on the crash to contact the detachment at 250-248-6111.
