Port Alberni RCMP officers paused during their morning shift on Friday (Aug. 17) to honour two officers gunned down in an incident in Fredericton, NB on Aug. 10.

“Constable Robb Costello and Const. Sara Burns lost their lives protecting their community,” Port Alberni RCMP Insp. Brian Hunter said. “They were murdered.”

The police constables were gunned down during a shooting at a north end Fredericton apartment complex Aug. 10 that also claimed the lives of Bobbie Lee Wright and Donnie Robichaud.

“We took an opportunity today at the Port Alberni detachment to honour their lives, to show our respect, and how truly appreciative we are of their service to their country,” Hunter said.

Port Alberni RCMP Const. Peter Batt and his daughter played Amazing Grace on the bagpipes, while RCMP Chaplain Les Schrader delivered a prayer for the people killed in Fredericton as well as their families.
