An RCMP manhunt is underway for a man who sexually assaulted a 17-year old Ahousaht girl in an Alberni hotel.

According to an RCMP press release, the incident happened in the early morning of Sept. 9.

The girl returned to the Hospitality Inn after attending the Alberni District Fall Fair then partying with friends. She went to bed then awoke to find a strange man sexually assaulting her. The man threatened to kill the woman if she cried out or tried to awaken her roommate.

The woman escaped to the washroom after the assault where she texted friends and family to come and help her.  The suspect fled the hotel room by the time the victim’s friends arrived.

Police suspect that the woman’s hotel room door was not properly secured when the she and her roommate went to sleep, and the offender easily entered the room.

The woman described the suspect as being a Caucasian or possibly part Native heavy set male in his 20’s with tanned skin. He had ear-length medium brown curly hair in an afro style.
