Identification tags for district staff are coming to School District 70.
“It’s a quick way to identify school staff members, and itinerant staff members who are working in other schools,” district IT supervisor Jack Hitchings said at the school board meeting Tuesday night.
The idea was first discussed in 2009 and has gained traction ever since.
District information technology staff have been using the tags sine November.
The tag is credit card size and contains employees’ pictures, names, departments or schools worked at.
The plan is to start by only having itinerant staff use them for now.
Phasing the tags in across the district may be considered later.
Tags for visitors at schools hasn’t been considered, but isn’t out of the question, Hitchings said.
The tags cost $2 and are produced by district staff at the board office.
School districts in Nanaimo, Comox Valley and Victoria use a tag system.
