In Loving Memory ~ With broken hearts we announce that Al Wilson passed away at Nanaimo General hospital on Sept 2, 2021- at the age of 61 - after an 18-month battle with cancer.
Predeceased by his parents Fred and Isabelle Wilson, Al is survived by the love of his life, wife Cindy; his sons Al (Kim) and Steve (Shannon); grandchildren Aili, Lyla, Ella and Amelia; brother Ross (Kelly), father-in-law John Miller; brothers-in-law John Miller (Bev) and Larry Miller (Terri); sister-in-law Sue Robertson (Dave); and many extended family and friends.
Al grew up in Port Alberni where he met and married his childhood sweetheart - Al adored his wife Cindy and his two sons. Al was an awesome father - if he wasn't packing up hockey gear at the arena, he was fixing bikes and motorbikes. He participated in every aspect of his boys' lives.
Right up until Al got sick, he would be mountain biking with Al and Steve whenever he could. He will also be missed by his grandchildren that he loved so much.
Al was loved by everyone that knew him. He was an easy-going guy who always had a great smile, sense of humour, and quick wit.
Al loved his work in the forest industry. He was skilled and one of the best operators on a processor / loader on the West Coast. In fact, Al loved logging so much that he used to joke that if he won the lottery he wouldn't want too much: "Just enough to be comfortable" and not enough that he would be able to stop his work.
The family would like to thank everyone for the prayers, help and support. Thank you to the doctors and staff at the Vancouver General Hospital Cancer Clinic and the Nanaimo General Hospital and Palliative Care Unit.
A private celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
