Allen Hartt passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Predeceased by his first wife Sheila in 1969, Allen is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Belen, and daughter Gaye (Russ) of Tsawwassen and son Greg (Taunia) of Kamloops. He loved his family and was very proud of his grandchildren Dion, Michael (Jes), and Alicia (Laine) and great-grandchildren Riley, Meara, Hudson, Adelynn, and Oliver. Al was predeceased by his parents, Perley and Grace Hartt, brothers Harry, Cecil and Ralph (Ruth), brother- in-laws Geoff and Manuel (Dominga), and sister-in- laws Verna, Magdalena and Dionesia. He is survived by his brothers John and Aleck (Adele), sister Jean, brother-in-laws Orlando (Lilia) and Andres, sister-in-laws Revlyn (Roberto) and Helen (Jeremias), and many nieces and nephews.
Al was born in Fairy Glen, Saskatchewan, on New Year's Eve, a birthday he loved having as he always said the whole world had a party for him. He grew up on a wheat farm during the Depression and was doing a full man's work by the age of 15. After working on construction building grain elevators throughout Saskatchewan, Al moved out to the Coast for new opportunities. He started in Ocean Falls but soon made his way to Port Alberni in 1954, where he remained for the rest of his life. Over the years Al worked at the Plywoods and the Pulp Mill, eventually retiring from West Coast General Hospital where he held several different positions.
The early retirement years for Al were filled with volunteering with a wide variety organizations and service clubs, where he gave tirelessly of his time and enjoyed the camaraderie of the other members. In later years, as Al started having some medical and mobility issues, he continued to enjoy the friendships and company of all the people that were part of his and Belen's wide circle of friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marc Puts and all the home care and hospital staff for their many years of kind care they provided to Allen.
Al loved his home and garden. A Celebration of Life will take place at his favourite time of year, when the garden is in bloom and the fruit is on the trees. Al generously supported many charities over the years. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice in his memory would be greatly appreciated.
