Andy Michielssen passed away peacefully in Port Alberni on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the age of 78.
Andy is survived by his loving wife Francine; children Rudy (Kelly), Sue (Tom), Leanne; grandchildren Taylor, T.J., Darren (Natasia), and Jenn. Born in Belgium, Andy immigrated to Port Alberni with his new bride in 1959. He began working on the docks in February 1960 and continued working as a Longshoreman until his retirement in 1998. Andy was ‘a genius in his own right’ because he had a natural ability to fix anything. He was an accomplished craftsman and proud of the fish he smoked for people near and far. A special thank you to the nurses, staff and volunteers at Home and Community Care and Ty Watson House. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
