He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years and 34 wonderful years together Cindy, his oldest son Richard (Carrie) Freeman, his daughter Lauren Wood; who passed away peacefully in Nova Scotia November 13th, 2021 and his youngest son Jeff (Kristine) Freeman. Step children Andre' Henri Jr., Tammy Wityshyn, 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He is also survived by his brother Roger (Jeanne) Freeman sster-in-law Ardith Freeman both of Port Alberni, sisters Helen (David) Fox and Diane MacDougall of Nova Scotia. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Linda, the mother of his children.
Arthur was born January 7, 1941 at Caledonia, Nova Scotia and grew up in Liverpool NS. He was quite the little troublemaker/ instigator in his younger years and throughout his whole life but such a gentle soul that would never hurt anyone.
In March of 1966, Art moved from Nova Scotia to Port Alberni, B.C. His family followed later that year. He worked at Alberni Pacific Div. Approx. 8 years then for more than 25 working years at Pacifica Paper, now Catalyst Paper. He worked meat cutting and also did drywall on the side for many years and he truly enjoyed it.
Art loved going for drives down the logging roads often finding rocks for their pond or pieces of free wood for his woodstove or just having a coffee at the pier looking out on the inlet. He loved boating on the lake or going down the canal fishing or fishing in Ucluelet was his favorite spot. Arthur always catching the biggest and the most. He loved country music while taking his wife out dancing and/or listening to a good band always put a smile on his face.
Taking off anywhere while spending time with his lovely wife was one of his most favorite things to do. His favorite places that he liked to RV camp was by the ocean or lakes or anywhere his RV would go. He enjoyed swimming on hot summer days and taking his shirt off enjoying the scenery and getting good tan.
Art, Cindy and her mother spent a many years travelling together and had all moved to Saskatchewan for a few years making new friendships and relations with relatives there. He had many fun hobbies like watching hockey, finding little treasures in their adventures, play practical jokes on unsuspecting people or joking and bugging everyone especially the children. Or just being plain silly like he was. There was a lot of laughter.
He loved playing cards with his brother Roger and anyone who would play that he could take their money. Although playing cards with his brother was truly one of his favourite things to do.
Art loved to ride quads and being out in the wilderness. Also going up north hunting and getting skunked every time but he had no care in the world due to he was together with his wife and that is all that mattered. They spend a lot of time travelling (a vacation almost every year) visiting many places in North America. Including going home to Nova Scotia many times throughout his life to see his family and friends. Especially his dad, mom, sisters, daughter and grandson.
Some places he has travelled is Alaska, many States of the USA and straight across Canada many times. Every time seeing new sceneries, exploring new places and visiting people he hadn't seen for years is what he truly enjoyed. Also spending special Holidays with his wife and family who he loved dearly; especially his children who he always talked about and was so proud of.
Arthur loved to cook and stay busy while fixing up his house or he liked to tinker in his workshop by a warm fire. He was always fun loving, smiling and joking with the grandchildren; throwing treats or ice cream bars on their laps. His made up stories and songs (he loved to sing his style) will forever be cherished in our hearts. Finally never make a bet or dare him because he always won. Arthur was a very independent man until he was no longer able.
He always loved the simple pleasures of life and lived a very long and happy one.
Arthur Lester Freeman aka ALF will forever be deeply missed by those who loved him dearly.
