Born to William Henry and Jean Ann Forbes Ansell (Nee Ireland) in the Village of North Regina, Saskatchewan on April 28, 1928, Audrey passed away February 23, 2018.
Predeceased by her husband, Larry Engstrom and survived by her siblings, Vera Simpson, Ron Ansell, Maureen Plul (Frank) and her children, Earl (Ilyne), Wade (Kori), Gaylene Pennykid (Rick), Lance (Lorie), Vernon, Alita. Grandchildren, Tiffany, Tanner, Blake, Joshua, Nathan, Melissa, Flynn, Steven (Reanna), Krysteen, Brandon, Jacob, Annelise. Great Grandchildren, Mason, McKenna, numerous nieces and nephews.
Audrey was the oldest of four children and once she finished high school, she enjoyed working at Saskatchewan Government Insurance. Audrey was a fan of both the Regina Pats and Saskatchewan Roughriders, holding season tickets.
Audrey was a wonderful mother. She was active in her children's school PAC and, when her children were still at home, enjoyed, among many other things, baking. She baked often, and regularly baked more than she needed, so, when the fragrance of her baking attracted the neighbourhood children, she had enough for everyone. Being a good neighbour was very important to Audrey and she became friends with many in the neighbourhood.
She was an avid reader, but most of all Audrey enjoyed people. She was generous, had a keen wit, lively sense of humour and was an engaged, empathetic listener. After raising her family, Audrey naturally gravitated to the service of Hospice, where she was a volunteer for numerous years, then, for several years, the Port Alberni Volunteer Hospice coordinator. Audrey enjoyed visiting with friends and looked forward to 'tea with the girls' each week.
Audrey was a positive, caring soul who always looked for the very best in people and in each situation and phase of life. Audrey was deeply loved and is fondly remembered by her family and friends.
Thank you to Community Home Care and the staff at the West Coast General Hospital for your care, with a very special thank you to Keith Gagnon for his thoughtfulness and time he shared with Audrey through her final weeks. We are deeply grateful.
