Beth McAskill passed away peacefully in Nanaimo General Hospital at the age of 78.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years Ed, her children Colleen Chomeakwich (Mike), Bill (Bill), Catherine Franklin (Blair), her grandchildren Steven, Lisa and Trevor, sisters Karen Probert (Doug) and Ellen Myrfield (Dave), sister-in-law Norma McAskill, many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Robbie.
Predeceased by her parents William and Jean MacGregor, brother- in-law James Atkinson and brother-in-law James (Scotty) McAskill.
Beth was born in Collingwood Ontario and grew up in Brantford. Although she moved to Vancouver Island at the age of 14 she always felt that Ontario was the place she was most at home. She jumped at any opportunity to visit and had so many stories of her many aunts and uncles who she dearly loved.
Beth's interests were varied ranging from baseball, to cooking, to learning Gaelic, a good murder mystery to opera. She loved anything from the UK especially Coronation Street. She was a lifelong learner and if something grabbed her interest she wanted to know everything about it.
Road trips were a particular passion, the destination and direction often irrelevant. She was happy wherever the road took her. She had a big laugh and terrific sense of humour which all the women in her family share. Family gatherings were always a riot.
As a mother Beth could be fiercely protective but also encouraged great independence. She was not one to coddle or hold back her opinion but you always knew how deeply she cared. She will be terribly missed.
