In loving memory ~

1951 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Bates, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, who left us peacefully on January 3, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Port Alberni, Betty lived a rich and full life, most recently residing in Ladysmith, British Columbia.

Betty was the devoted mother of her two daughters, Chelsea Bates and Marley Bates, and a loving mother-in-law to Dustin Thompson, whom she cherished beyond measure. Predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Nina, and her sister Elaine, and survived by her sister Arlene, and her brothers Howard and Wayne, Betty is remembered as a loving, caring, and doting homemaker who dedicated her life to her family.

She also found fulfillment in volunteering for causes close to her heart, including the Terry Fox Foundation and various animal shelters. Betty's love for animals was evident in everything she did, and her home was always filled with the warmth and companionship of pets she adored.

In addition to her role as a homemaker, Betty worked as a secretary and fondly recalled her time at BC Hydro. She also spent eight memorable years living in Barbados, a time she treasured deeply. A passionate traveler, Betty embarked on countless adventures with her daughters, exploring Palm Springs, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Disneyland, Arizona, and beyond. She was always planning her next trip and dreamed of creating even more lasting memories with her family.

Betty's unforgettable laugh could brighten any room and bring joy to everyone around her. She had a deep love for comedy and found delight in laughter, but nothing brought her more happiness than her daughters, whom she spoiled with love and devotion.

In keeping with Betty's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Those who wish to honor her memory are encouraged to make a donation to the BC SPCA, reflecting her lifelong love and care for animals.

Betty will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
