In loving memory ~
Brian E. MacDermott was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1938 as an only child. He came to Vancouver on a train with his mother after WWII to meet up with his father who was in the Royal Canadian Navy. His family moved to Nanaimo and later to Port Alberni where he resided until his passing.
His hobbies were sports cars, Formula 1 Racing, river fly fishing, and canal fishing at "The Shack". After his fishing partner passed away, Brian took up golf and travelled to many places with his wife. His favorite color was red. From new, he owned a bright red 1990 Miata until his passing. Brian was very proud of the insurance business he bought in 1975. He changed the name from Turner Bros Insurance Agency to MacDermotts Insurance Agency and built it up to be the largest agency in Port Alberni. He retired at age 65.
Dementia was slowly taking Brian from us but it was cancer that finally took him. He was home until July 1st 2022 being cared for by his wife of 48 years, and with help from very caring nurses. He peacefully passed away in his sleep at Ty Watson House in the early morning of July 3rd 2022.
He is predeceased by a son. Brian was a very proud, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his surviving family. Also survived by maternal cousins in Nova Scotia, and fraternal cousins in Penticton.
Thanks to Dr. Fraser, the home care nurses, and also big thanks to the wonderful volunteers and staff at Ty Watson House. Cremation has taken place with no service as per Brian's wishes. Please respect the family's privacy at this time. Donations can be made to West Coast General Hospital, Ty Watson house, or a charity of your choice.
"Good-bye, our gentle, caring, sweet man."
