It is with great sadness that we wish to share that Carlo Nichele passed away peacefully at home in Port Alberni surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the age of 81. Predeceased by his first wife Marina; parents, siblings: Gina, Giovanni, Caterina, Federico, and Mario, niece Daniella Pilotto and daughter-in-law Edna Chow. Survived by his loving wife Gilda of three years; children Ivano (Shelly), Gino, Anita (Mike), Maurilio (Jenna), Stefano (Dawn) and Anna (Karl); grandchildren Haylee, Zoe, Melanie, Sofia, Nyia, Lucia, Daniel, Jordan, Savanna, Kyle, Lucas; siblings Maria, Alberto (Lina), and Cesira (Luigi) as well as many nieces and nephews in Canada and in Italy. Carlo came to Port Alberni in 1955 from Cittadella Italy. He worked at several jobs, until he found his passion as an excavator operator for McMillan Bloedel, Sproat Lake Division – a career that spanned over 40 years. When not working, Carlo took pride in tending his garden, maintaining his yard and sculpting his hedge. He was a founding member of the Italian Canadian Fraternal Society and remained an active member. He enjoyed the company of family and friends. He was adored by his grandchildren and they loved his “Nonno soup”. He was well known for making lasagnas for community fundraisers, and family. Prayers will take place at 7:00pm, Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 – 6th Ave., with a Funeral Mass to be held at 11:00am, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, 4731 Burke Road.
