May 21, 1947 - November 24, 2019
Clare passed away peacefully at WCGH on Sunday, November 24, 2019. He leaves to forever miss him, his ex-wife and friend, Michelle Nordmann; daughters, Tammy Martinez of Port Alberni and Ashley Nordmann of Vancouver; granddaughter, Gracie Martinez; his best friend, Mike Johnson, and many extended family members and friends. Clare was predeceased by his mother, Monica Ekland.
Diagnosed two years ago with Dementia, Clare's symptoms progressed quickly over the last
six months. It was his desire to remain at home with his faithful dog, Phoebe as long as he could. Two weeks prior to his death he was able to do just that. Clare loved his family and while it was difficult at times for him to say this with words, he always did his best to show us with his actions.
Clare worked as a long shoreman for over 50 years. Very knowledgeable about many things, he enjoyed watching anything that had to do with wildlife and history. He loved old westerns, Turner Classic Movies, and wrestling. He was a member of the ILWU, Alberni District Sportsman's Association and The Western Hand Gunners Association and spent many happy hours at the shooting range. He also enjoyed photography and was an excellent "Dad" to all his fur-babies over the years.
A special "thanks" to his best friend, Mike, for looking out for him, being a stellar neighbor, and helping him whenever he needed it. He always enjoyed your time together, be it playing darts, archery, firing his favourite guns at the gun range or taking a beer break. Your friendship was one he treasured.
In keeping with Clare's wishes no formal services will be held. A Celebration of his life may be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Clare's memory may do so by making a donation in his name to Dementia and Alzheimers research.
