David Keith Delong

January 22, 2021

February 22, 1944 - January 22, 2021
David (Dave) was adopted by James and Catherine Delong at birth and was raised in the city of New Westminster.
He was twice divorced and leaves to mourn his daughter, Melissa Palmer of Fairfield, Iowa, her husband Cory and children, Clayton Delong, Dominick Delong, Scott Palmer, and Shayla Palmer; his son, Kevin of Trois Rivieres, Quebec, his wife Crystal and children, Branden and Aila. Dave also leaves to mourn his cousin, Heather Bacon of Courtenay, and many close friends. They will all miss him dearly.
Dave worked for a pulp and paper mill for many years in various places in BC, New Brunswick, and for several months in the Philippines. He was a responsible worker and was well liked and respected by his associates. He also was a volunteer firefighter in Powell River for some time.
When Dave retired, he spent several years living on a boat and cruising up and down the inland waters of coastal BC accompanied by his beloved cat. When Dave finally decided to settle down, he first lived in a mobile home park in Courtenay before moving to his final home in Port Alberni.
He enjoyed working in his workshop "fixing things", walking, or biking on the nature trails, and indulging in his hobby of photography. Dave was a kind, caring man who would lend a helping hand to anyone whether he knew them or not. He loved all animals, especially dogs and for that reason his family have requested that if anyone wishes to make a charitable donation in Dave's memory, they do so to the SPCA.
Cremation will take place and, in keeping with Dave's wishes, no services will be held.
