DAVID ROY HANSEN (February 21, 1941 – September 19, 2014)

It is with great sadness that we announce Dave’s sudden passing. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Bette, three children – Janice (Paul), Darren (Liz) and Valerie (Matt) and his grandchildren - Christian, Rachel, Sienna, Talia and Luke.

Dave and Bette returned to Bette’s home town, the Alberni Valley, shortly after their marriage in Victoria. Dave worked at the pulp mill prior to becoming a full-time firefighter and ambulance attendant in 1968. Dave retired in 1999. The friendship of his fellow firefighters meant a lot to him.

Dave was a great sports fan. Although sadly he never saw his Canucks win the cup, he was thrilled to meet his hockey idol, Gordie Howe. He was a history and movie buff and the guy you wanted on your team in a game of trivial pursuit.

Although he couldn’t sing a note, he loved music, and often DJ’ed for raucous parties with his many friends. In his retirement, he enjoyed golf with his friends at the Cherry Creek golf course, traveling with Bette, and spending time with his family. He was happiest tending his beautiful property at Sproat Lake with his beloved Kit Kat at his side. It is, therefore, fitting that he spent his final moments at the lake’s edge with the warm afternoon sunshine on his face. He will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 27th, 2014, at the Italian Canadian Centre, 4065 6th Avenue, Port Alberni, BC. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Dave. We also encourage everyone to offer a memory of Dave or a message for the family on the pages that will be available at the Celebration of Life.
