September 30, 1937 - September 18, 2019
Born September 30, 1937 in Port Alberni, BC; died September 18, 2019. Predeceased by parents Lillian (nee Squire) and Lou Fox; husband Al Horton.
Attended 8th Ave Elementary and ADHS, graduating 1955. Further studies were in office management in Victoria. Marilyn started working at WCGH switchboard in her early 20s and worked her way up to Personnel Manager, remaining in her position until she reached retirement age. She continued to enjoy luncheons with her fellow employees after her retirement. She maintained a close and continuous relationship with her many Squire relations in Nanaimo and elsewhere.
Through her over 50+ year membership in the community and service sorority Beta Sigma Phi, she volunteered in many events, such as the Fall Fair, Tallships and Senior & Handicapped Games, to name a few. For 20 years she was a member of a senior ladies tap dance troupe, taking part in annual dance school performances. As a member of Red Hats and Jane Austen events, she fulfilled her love of dressup. Marilyn was a lover of 'get togethers', Christmas decorations and pets.
Thanks to the Doctors, hospital staff, her home caregivers and especially to her close neighbors who have been there for her in practical and social ways over many years.
Please come and share in a celebration of Marilyn's life on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 12 pm at the United Church Hall, 3747 Church St, Port Alberni, BC.
