We are sad to announce that Debie Waugh passed away in Port Alberni on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at the age of 68 years.
Predeceased by her parents, Debie is survived by loving husband Ken; children Darin (Kazia) and Jeremy (Kerri); grandchildren Gabe, Layne, Jack and Charlotte; brother Dwight (Carol) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Born on the prairies, Debie's family moved to the Alberni Valley when she was 4 years old. Growing up in Port Alberni, Debie graduated from ADSS, completing her degree as a Registered Nurse in Victoria in 1971. After graduation Debie returned to Port Alberni where she began her 35 year career as a nurse in the Emergency and Operating Rooms. In July of 1971 she married her childhood sweetheart and next door neighbor Ken and they began their family a few years later. She loved being in the outdoors and was a very active person, enjoying skiing, golf, boating and especially camping. Her favourite camping spot was on Quadra Island, where she spent every summer for nearly fifty years.
In addition to being greatly missed by her family and friends, Debie left an impression on many of the patients who were fortunate enough to have her as a nurse through the years.
The family would like to thank all the staff at WCGH, especially Dr Lund and the nursing and care staff for all their comfort and support.
