Derryl Matthews

Derryl passed away peacefully with his wife by his side. He was predeceased by his parents Ted and Ada Matthews, brother-in-law Paul Clemmer and sister-in-law Diane Kramer. He is survived by his family: his wife Norma, sons Shane (Anne), Len (Shelley), Paul (Karen), Gene (Sandra); grandchildren Kristyna (Matt), Kaitlyn, Robert, Nicholas, Jacob, Austin, Daniel, Makayla, Jordan and Jenna; great grandchildren Vylett and Koen; and siblings, brothers: Dennis (Clarene) and Gordon (Ronnie) as well as sister Faye Salisbury.

Derryl was born in Nanaimo, BC, living at Nanoose, BC for 2 years before the family moved to Port Alberni, BC and resided there until his passing. He spent his entire working life at the Somass Mill and enjoyed challenging himself to learn the jobs of Trimming, Edging and his dream job as Headsawyer which he did when Hival opened. Derryl liked fishing, camping, vacations to Alberta, and playing both the piano and accordion.

Derryl’s family wishes to extend thanks to Dr. Nell, the Home Support Nurses and the staff at Westhaven Care for all the kindness and care he was shown. You have been a big part of our lives. Special thanks to family and friends for being there for us.

The celebration of Derryl’s life will be held at Jericho Road Church (old Klitsa School),

5100 Tebo Ave., Port Alberni, BC at 11:00 on Saturday, August 29, 2015.

Donations may be given to Westhaven Care Facility towards a garden arbor.
