It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Allan
Shannon on Friday, April 7th, 2017. Don is survived by his wife Elizabeth, sons
Terry (Donna), Dan (Cheryl), and daughter Kathi. Survived by his 13
grandchildren: Andi Shannon (Giles), Darien (Chris) Allan, Kara (Pex)
Shannon-Leweni, Josh (Kelly) Shannon, Lola (Matt) Gillies, Shanna (Rob)
Wighton, Ben Marks, Candice (Jamie) Dods, Megan Wright, Danielle Shannon,
Lindsay Shannon (Dustin), Tyrone (Tanya) Shannon and Kerrilyn Shannon (Chad).
He is survived by his sisters Suzanne and Patricia. He is predeceased by his
daughter Nancy in 1999 and his sister Jean in 2015. Don was born in Consort
Alberta on August 31st, 1931 to Alvyn and May Shannon. The family left their
grain farm in Alberta and arrived in the Alberni Valley in 1935. Don spent
the next 80 years living on and developing the family dairy farm out on
Beaver Creek Road at the foot of the Beaufort Range. Don was an optimistic
man with a tremendous work ethic and a sunny disposition. His great sense of
humour was well known. He liked people and enjoyed engaging with them and
listening to their stories. He will be fondly remembered by his many
friends, and will be deeply missed by his family. Don’s wishes were for no
formal service and in lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Alzheimer's
society.
