Donna Ann Spencer

We are sad to announce the passing of Donna on May 04, 2019. She passed away peacefully at her home on Sproat Lake surrounded by family and friends.
Donna was predeceased by her daughter Tiana, her parents Mary and Blair Densmore, mother-in-law Athalie Spencer, sisters Elaine Moore and Kaye Sharp, brothers Gary and Norman Densmore.
Donna is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Larry and son Kodie, beloved grandchildren, Jayden, Hunter and Sophia, brother Mel Densmore (Debbie), father-in-law Alex Spencer, sister-in-law's Irene Densmore and Jen Mills (Don), brother-in-laws Bill Moore (Ursula), Ralph Spencer (Maria), John Spencer, Tom Spencer (Jennifer). Donna has many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Vancouver Island and British Colombia. She is also survived by many relatives in Nova Scotia, the rest of Canada and the U.S.
Donna was born in Port Alberni. She attended school until Grade 10 until she went to Canadian Union College in Alberta for her high school years. After graduation she went to Seneca College in Toronto for her registered nursing and worked in Toronto and Montreal until 1979, when she returned to Port Alberni. She worked as an ICU, O.R. and emergency room nurse at WCGH. She taught nursing courses at NIC, and also worked at Community Living, Family Health Centre and finished her career at Nuu Cha Nulth Tribal Council nursing.
Donna loved doing random acts of kindness and volunteered with many groups. She was a long time member of the Alberni Athletic Association and most recently had volunteered with the Breakfast Club and Haahuupayak School.
Donna enjoyed life everyday. She loved family and family gatherings. Donna was very happy at home on the lake with her flowers and gardens. She was an avid boater and water-skiier. She especially enjoyed the last few years spending time with her grandchildren Jayden, Hunter and Sophia.
The family would like to express special thanks to Donna's main home care nurse - Margaret Versteeg - and also to Dr. Daryl Lund - a family friend who was there for Donna from the start of her cancer journey until the end.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Donna's Life will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Alberni Valley Athletic Hall, 3727 Roger St, Port Alberni, BC.
