Jul 29, 1936 - Jan 30, 2018
Douglas was born in Waterville, Nova Scotia on July 29, 1936 and passed away suddenly as a result of a heart attack January 30, 2018 at his home in Coombs, BC.

He is survived by his two sons, Philip, Errington, BC and Ioannis, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; sister Joan (Mike) Mahovlic, Port Alberni, BC, brother Gerald (Janet) Salsman, Coldbrook, Nova Scotia, brother Ronald (Jeanette) Salsman, Port Alberni, BC, sister Madelyn Wiles, Morristown, Nova Scotia, brother Leo (Adele) Salsman, Trail, BC, sister Marilyn (Allan) Teal, Trenton, Ontario, and sister Freda Salsman, Waterville, Nova Scotia as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Douglas left Nova Scotia at 21 years old to move to Port Alberni in 1957. He worked at several jobs including the plywood plant, water pipeline from Elsie Lake to Great Central Lake and the pulp mill. After building a house in Port Alberni, he moved to a five acre piece of land that he purchased in Coombs.

There he built a log house, log garage and a big barn in which he raised many animals.

Douglas was a very talented and hard-working person who loved to do carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical work, digging wells by hand, raising cattle and growing vegetables and fruit trees. He was very proud of a sugar maple grove which he developed from trees he brought from Nova Scotia. Basically, there was nothing that he would not attempt to do within reason.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
