July 15, 1931 - December 29, 2018
On December 29, 2018 Edith passed away at the age of 87 following a short bout with cancer. Edith was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1991. Her children Daniella (Wojciech), Kenneth and Grandson Ali (Alana) will love and miss her for the rest of their lives, as will her niece Francine and daughter Sue (Tom). Her sister in France, extended family and friends in Belgium mourn her passing as well.

Born in Ouwegem, Belgium, Edith experienced the Second World War as a young girl and began working in the textile industry by the age of fourteen. Scarcity of resources and the need to earn money during her early years strongly influenced her strong work ethic and determination to waste nothing. In 1957 Edith left all that she knew and immigrated to Port Alberni with her husband and young daughter.

Life in Canada was much different than the old country and Edith immediately set about finding work. Until 1999 Edith was well known at Rainbow Lanes where she worked for 40 years. For the past 25 years she was well known to many through her extensive walking about town to visit friends, shop and being social. Trees don't meet people do she said.

She found her passion in loving the great outdoors and beautiful places everywhere.

Many thanks to the exceptional staff and volunteers at Ty Watson House, and family and friends who have provided support along the way.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a date to be announced. Stores and condolences may be left for the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca. In lieu of flowers kindly donate to a charity of your choice.
