It is with sadness that we announce Edith's passing at Rainbow Gardens in Port Alberni at the age of 90 years.
Predeceased by husband Paul in 1990. Survived by sons Stephen (Blanca), Laird (Audrey), daughter Karasima. Grandchildren: Vanessa, Sophia, and Mackenzie, Branham.
Edith was born in Melbourne Australia and came to Canada on her own in 1956. She met Paul and they were married in Vancouver in 1958. The family moved to Ucluelet in 1970 where Edith worked as the public librarian until her retirement in 1989. After Paul's passing she moved to Port Alberni in 1990 and became involved in the Sunshine Club and a local walking group.
Edith had an independent nature and was quite comfortable in her own company. She was a voracious reader (she had a lifelong passion for books) and had the ability to create well-crafted, humorous, hand written letters that were enjoyed by distant family and friends. Her contentment with solitude did not translate into shyness as she was usually eager to voice her opinion on any number of topics; often while deploying her trademark pointed index finger for emphasis.
During her final years at Rainbow Gardens she enjoyed visits and outings with her family. (Walmart and restaurants). Even in declining health she maintained her spirit and seemed to delight in keeping the dedicated staff at Rainbow Gardens on their toes. Her love for her family and the impression she made on those who knew her will be remembered. There is no formal service at her request.
