On Thursday, January 5, 2017, surrounded by his family, Edward Bakken passed away peacefully in Port Alberni, BC at the age of 90 years.

Ed was predeceased by his brothers Magnus, George and Anton; sister Emilia Hern and son Terry. He is survived by sons Robert (Mary) and Mark (Dorothy); grandchildren Jason (Katy), Robin Mearns (Tyler); sisters Margaret Charbonneau of Roblin Man; Gaye Deederly and brother Ben as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ed moved from Roblin, Manitoba to Port Alberni, BC in 1950 to find employment at MacMillan & Bloedel’s Somass Division where he worked until his retirement. Passionate about his music, Ed learned to play guitar by ear and throughout the years he shared his love by playing with any and all on CJAV with Dick Thomas and the Radio Pals, to entertaining at different events and facilities with the Good Old Boys. His music collection contained many of the classics and especially songs by Hank Williams. When not working, Ed also enjoyed gardening – both flowers and vegetables – and visiting with friends and family.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, January 18, 2016 from Grace Lutheran Church, 4408 Roger St, Port Alberni with Pastor Kevin Platz officiating. Burial will follow at Alberni Valley Memorial Park in Port Alberni.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff of Fir Park Village for taking care of Ed and for the support they gave us during Ed’s last few days.
