Elaine Newberry

Newberry, Elaine passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at the age of 84 years.
She was Predeceased by husband of 60 years, Norm, son Steve, sister Faye and brother Harvie.
She is Survived by her children Dianne (Rich), Brenda (Bill), Myrna (Ross), Shawn (Greg), Rick (Cheri), Val (Boyd), daughter in law Crystal, 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, sister Fern, and many others held as family in her heart.
Born on her parent's prairie homestead, Elaine attended school in Naicam, Saskatchewan where she met her future husband Norman. They first made their home in Ottawa, Ontario and in 1956 moved to Port Alberni in search of work. It was here they built their home and raised their family.
As a young woman Elaine enjoyed sports, participating in track, playing softball, and curling. As a wife and mother with a big family she was a busy woman: nurturing children, gardening, canning, baking, mending, coaching ball, a hockey mom, involved with her church, and volunteering throughout her lifetime. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone, providing love and support for multiple generations of children, extended family & friends.
Any vacation or travel plans were always to connect with family. To all who were blessed to cross her threshold she was the provider of a hot coffee, warm baking or a home cooked meal, a Scrabble partner, homemade quilts, a much needed ride, clothing, shelter, an ear to listen, a place to rest your head, a rescuer from troubles, the one who prayed for you.
Elaine embraced her faith at a young age and maintained an unwavering faith throughout her life. Her greatest desire was that everyone would come to know God. She lived her own life as an example and testament to that faith by her words and her actions. She will be greatly missed.
Her family would like to express heartfelt thanks to Doctors Meyer, Feyi, and the medical team at WCGH, the volunteers and staff at Ty Watson House, and to Norm Moore, mom's special friend and prayer partner during these sunset years of her life.
Due to COVID no formal service will be held at this time.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Elim Tabernacle, 3946 Wallace Street, Port Alberni, BC. V9Y 3Y7 with a notation of "in memory of Elaine Dewberry".
A service to celebrate the life of Elaine Newberry will be held Saturday Sept 25, 2021, 1 pm at Elim Tabernacle, 3946 Wallace St Port Alberni. The service will also be live streamed, accessible on the Elim Tabernacle Facebook page.
