It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Elmer after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 71 years old. Predeceased by his mother and father Helen and John, he is survived by his loving wife Margret of 8 years, Son Randy (Nicole), Nadine (Darryll), his four grandchildren Shelby, Dallas, Elena and Sarah and 6 siblings Melvin (Bernie), Bob (Donna), Eileen, John (Sherry), Dean (Glenys) and Peter.

Elmer was born in Scott, Saskatchewan on April 16, 1943. He worked in the potash mines near Saskatoon until 1969 before moving his family to the west coast of British Columbia. He settled in Port Alberni to begin work as a logger for M&B Sproat Lake Division. A short time later he found work in the pulp and paper industry. He remained there for 37 years until his retirement.

Elmer was known by many as the ‘gentle giant’ with the heart of a lion. He was a kind and loving man who always had a helping hand to offer others. He lived his life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Notre Dame Parish, 4731 Burke Rd., Port Alberni. A coffee and tea luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the parish basement hall.
