May 26, 1928 - May 18, 2022
Father Anthony Sebastian was born May 26th, 1928 to parents, Adam Sebastian and Mary Wild on a farm in Kendall, SK. Anthony was one of 8 siblings, the youngest of 3 brothers, who joined the Franciscan Order and began his religious life with the St Joseph's Province in Quebec. Anthony's religious formation and education was taught in French. Over the years, Anthony excelled in the fields of English Literature and Philosophy teaching at St. Anthony's College for boys. From there he was appointed the Guardian of the Edmonton Fraternity and Pastor of
St. Francis Parish. He spent a brief time as Pastor in Port Alberni's Holy Family and Notre Dame Parishes. He then took on the role as Retreat Director at Mt. St. Francis Retreat Centre in Cochrane, AB, for 10 years, coming to stay in Victoria as its Guardian and Chaplin to St. Ann Sisters. His involvement as a Spiritual Director with the Secular Franciscans and ever ready attitude in being active in his community, he felt the onset of dementia creating problems. Up until then his interest in social gatherings and gardening kept him happy in life. Anthony succumbed to his illness in the 5 years that he was in long term care on May 18, 2022. His legacy of compassion and inspiration will always be remembered. We would like acknowledge the care and concern given by his nursing staff at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital.
