1928 – 2017
On January 11, 2017 Frances Ellen Baird passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 88. The daughter of Owen & Pearl Brown, Ellen was born July 7, 1928 in Crutwell, Saskatchewan. In June 1947, she married Lorne Austin Baird in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Together they had nine children. In August 1968 the family moved to Port Alberni, where Lorne built their home. Ellen was a devoted mother to her children, and loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In 2012, after 48 years in her home on McKenzie Road, Ellen moved to her apartment at Heritage Place.
Ellen was predeceased by her husband Lorne, daughters Beverly and Barb, and her sisters Dorothy Isbester & Shirley Walsh. She is survived by her children Lorne (Willie) Baird, David Baird, Ron (Dana) Baird, Betty Baird, Lois Snaith, Lana Phillips & Jeannie (Clayton) Baird, her many grandchildren, and her siblings Cora Laroque, Florence Oleksiewicz, Muriel Guldager, and Mervin Brown.
The family would like to thank the residents and staff at Heritage Place for providing such wonderful care and kindness to Ellen and her family. As well, thank you to Dr. Brown, Dr. Williams, and the wonderful palliative care team in town.
A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 28th at South Side Community Church – 4190 Victoria Drive (off Alberni Highway) for all who wish to attend. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.yatesmemorial.ca
