October 11, 1928 - January 17, 2020
Frank Stini was born October 11, 1928 in the small village of Aistersheim, Austria and was the youngest 4 of children. He enjoyed a blessed childhood up until he was drafted into the Austrian army at the age of 15. This had a lasting effect on him, his greatest fear was that it would also happen to one of his loved ones. From that point on, Frank said his life always got better and better. He trained as an Electrician in Austria and sailed to Canada in 1953, docking in Quebec city. He spent some time working in Toronto, then made his way west, eventually settling in Port Alberni where he met & married his wife Ellie. Frank built a traditional Austrian style home for them and together they raised their 3 children: Michael Stini, Claudia Harrison (Mike) and Roy Stini (Colleen) on a small farm in Cherry Creek. Unfortunately Ellie passed away in 2003, but Frank did have the joy of watching his Grandsons Alex Harrison (Charlene) & Cody Harrison (Melissa) grow up and even the recent addition of Great-Granddaughter Keira Harrison. Frank always enjoyed keeping busy, working over 30 years as an Industrial Electrician at the Plywood mill as well as running his farm, doing woodworking projects, even building & barrel-racing a horse drawn chariot in the Central Vancouver Island area (a sport that never really caught on), supporting the Environmental Coalition and always plenty of hiking.
In his retirement years Frank was instrumental in the creation of the Log Train Trail, spending over 20 years helping to build the trail network around the valley, earning himself a Volunteer of the Year award and sharing his skills with many youth through the Young Offenders Program & Katimavik Organization. In spring of 2019 it was necessary for Frank to move to Rainbow Gardens Care Facility and we would like to thank everyone immensely for the outstanding level of care, comfort and dignity Frank was afforded during his stay with them. We would also like to give a huge thank you to Brittney and Maureen who made it possible for Frank to enjoy living at home for as long as he did; he enjoyed your company & friendship so much. Keeping in line with the belief that he lived a lucky life, Frank passed away in his sleep on January 17, 2020, at 91 years of age. He will be missed. In lieu of flowers, we suggest donations to community-minded organizations.
