Garry passed away peacefully at Ty Watson House on October 18, 2016, at the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his father John of Calgary, mother Yvonne and step-father Kelly Codyre, brother Bud, and sister Jeannie; Garry is survived by his loving wife Lynn; daughter Laura (Doug), grandchildren Karlie (Chad), Nicholas (Katie); son Shane (Patsy), grandchildren Chloe (Dylan), Boden and great-grandchild Oren; sisters Lila Curly, Betty Headman (Malcolm) and Doreen Cyr (Omer), as well as extended family and friends. Born in Calgary, Alberta on July 12, 1941, Garry moved to Vancouver and then settled with his family in Port Alberni. As a teenager, he worked in the woods before starting at Mars Industries, a company where he worked his way up and eventually become a partner. In 1993, he retired from Mars Industries in order to pursue his passion of cars and drag racing. It was this passion which led Garry to become involved in the inception of the Alberni Valley Drag Racing Association. Garry was also a devoted husband and father. He met his wife Lynn in grade school and they were married for 54 wonderful years. He loved spending time with his wife and children, and later his grandchildren and greatgrandchild. He will be greatly missed. Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, care aids and friends for all their help and support. Following Garry’s wishes, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Garry’s memory to Ty Watson House, 2649 2nd Avenue, Port Alberni, B.C., V9Y 1Z8, or to a charity of your choice.
