With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gary Allen deVries on September 15, 2016 after a courageous 20 months battle with brain cancer (GBM).

Gary survived his wife Jo-Ann, his pride and joy sons Jared and Gavin. His parents Jane and Aalt deVries, sister Karoline Steeves (Christopher ), in- laws Margaret and Ed Marshall, sister-in-law Cheryl Currie ( Brodie), his little furry buddies Luc and Lucy plus numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Gary grew up in Port Alberni and graduated from ADSS and later the University of Victoria with honours in chemical engineering. He then settled in Port Alberni and worked for Nalco at the Paper Mill.

In 1999 he met and then later married the love of his life Jo-Ann in 2002. Shortly after the birth of their second son in 2007, they moved to Kelso, WA where he continued to work for Nalco and raise his family.

Gary’s love of sports was prominent throughout his life. He played in several ball and hockey leagues, a member of the Alberni Golf Club, as well as a devoted 49ers fan. He also loved coaching his son’s little league baseball teams.


Service for Gary will be on October 15, 2016 at 1 pm at the

Christian Reformed Church
