June 1, 1946 - July 11, 2021
Gary lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, July 11, 2021. He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 29 years, Ilona; sons, Alvin and James (Elaine); daughter, Candice (Mike); stepsons, Scott, Bob, and Kirk; stepdaughter, Shelley (Craig) Summers; grandchildren, Breann, Danielle (Cory), Mirissa, and Kristen; great grandchildren, Logan and Caleb; sister in law, Ingrid (Mike); nephew, Colton; niece Nikki; as well as many, many extended family members and friends.
Gary was predeceased by his brother, Lanny; grandson, Kyle; and brother in law, Peter.
Everyone that knew Gary liked him. He was friendly, kind, and never had a negative thing to say about anyone. Gary loved his family, especially in the years we all played slo-pitch as a team. He loved his family and especially enjoyed the huge gatherings that brought everyone together on Christmas eve. Gary was so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gary worked at Cameron Division for 30 years as a stacker operator. Upon retiring, he spent a few years as a Walmart Greeter. As a people person, it was a perfect job for him as he loved connecting with all the people he met there.
In his younger years, Gary played fast pitch, retiring from that to take up 5 pin bowling. He turned out to be one of the best our town had seen! This is what brought Ilona into his life. Ilona and Gary put their two families together and formed an awesome slo-pitch team. Together they travelled to tournaments, including one as far away as Mexico. The last 20 years found Gary and Ilona enjoying the wonderful world of golf and met many new friends at the Alberni Golf Club. He also took pleasure in a good game of poker and played whenever he could.
He touched so many lives and will be missed by many. Thanks to all who cared for him in his last days.
You are always in my heart, my love.
