July 5, 1940 - December 24, 2020
Gary Norman Marshall Was born in Edmonton where he grew up and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta. In 1960 he married the love of his life, Helene, before moving to BC with his young family.
There he began a long career with MacMillan Bloedel Ltd. Gary started in 1969 in Chemainus. By 1977 he was the project manager for the creation of the new Alberni Pacific Division sawmill in Port Alberni. He went on to hold management positions in marketing and building products in Nanaimo and the company's head office in Vancouver.
Finally, after 27 years and 10 promotions, Gary retired in 1998 as Vice President Whitewood Lumber. He met many good people and made life long friends while at M&B. His latter years were spent on the island he loved, golfing, fishing, boating and spending time with Helene.
There are many words to describe Gary, dedicated, loyal, honest, hardworking, persuasive, and clever are just a few. He was also a fun loving world traveler and collector who delighted in filling his life with the people he met and his home with things he found joy in.
The consummate host he enjoyed gathering with friends and family and entertaining them with endless stories from his youth in Alberta and his many years in BC.
Gary passed away in Nanaimo on December 24, 2020 at the age of 80. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years Helene, his children Dan (Mary) and Susan (Ivan), and his beloved grandchildren Tyler, Kevin, Clayton and Jasmine.
Our memories will be filled with laughter and love while tinged with sadness and loss. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when we can all be together again.
