In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts, the family of George Peter Glumac are mourning his passing on February 12, 2025.
George was born and raised in Port Alberni. At the age of 16 he started a job at the mill and continued on to work at Sproat Lake Division until retiring at the age of 62. Most will remember George as a kind-hearted man. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time and was always happy to lend a helping hand. He loved the outdoors, and knew where every logging road led. He enjoyed hiking and fishing in all the local lakes and rivers, mushroom picking, and cutting lots of firewood. When not in the bush, he liked taking road trips, going for walks, and going for coffee with his wife and friends. He met his wife Maria in 1964 and they were married for over 60 years. Together, they shared their love for the outdoors - driving up Mount Arrowsmith was one of their favourite things to do. Above all else, he was a family man who deeply loved his wife, kids and grandkids.
George and Maria built their home together in 1966 with the help of family and friends. He was proud of his home and his last wish was that he could spend the remainder of his days there with his wife by his side.
George was predeceased by his parents Peter and Yeka, his brother Mike, his sister Mary, and his sisters-in-law Kosa (Kay) and Katie. He is survived by his wife Maria, children Rick (Haven) and Diane (Tom), grandchildren Xylia, Nico, and Logan, nieces Maria (Larry), and nephew Nick.
George's family would like to thank his longtime GP Dr. White and his assistant Melissa, cardiologist Dr. Fretz, the doctors and nurses at West Coast General, Royal Jubilee and Nanaimo General hospitals, as well as the community nurses and paramedics who all treated him respectfully and with loving care.
The family would also like to thank all their neighbors and friends for their love and support during this difficult time, as well as all who attended the services and shared photos and stories.
