Gianna Selva passed away on Sunday, October 20th at Ty Watson House. She was born in Morsano al Tagliamento to Natale and Angela Paolatto on March 8th, 1934 and arrived in Port Alberni in April of 1953 becoming a proud Canadian. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Tony and her sister Anna.
She bore her illness with incredible strength, courage and dignity. We are very thankful to Ty Watson House for providing Mom and her family loving comfort and support at the time of her passing. She is survived by her sisters, Rina (Italy), Edda (Port Alberni), Gabriella (Ontario) and her brother Berto (Australia).
Her greatest joy in life was being Mom to her children Angela (Phil), Gio (Joely), Mark (Shari), Stephen (Nicole); Nonna to Jordan, Anthony (Marinka), Stephanie (Travis), Keagun, Wyatt, Abby and Cooper; Gia to Angela and Jaimey; Bisnonna to Lennox and Evie; Zia to Maria (Mark), Paolo (Mary), Barbara (Bruno), Tony (Norma) and their children and grandchildren plus many nieces, nephews and their families in Ontario, Italy and Australia.
She loved cooking and hockey which was a good thing as we often seemed to have a house full of hockey billets over the years. There was always good and plentiful food on her table and no visitor every left hungry. There are many people to thank who helped keep Mom comfortable in her own home during the past five years, especially Dr. Kerrie DeWitt, Anita and Colleen; Dr. Feyi and Dawn; her Community Health Workers; the people from Meals On Wheels; the Save-On-Foods Pharmacy Staff and the Life Labs Team.
Mom wouldn't want flowers or fuss. She would have liked you to feed the hungry, comfort the children and love your family. If you wish, donations to Ty Watson House would be appreciated and meaningful.
There will be no formal service as per Mom's request. A family gathering and Inurnment will take place at a later date.
