1928 – 2016
It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father on Saturday, Sept 24, 2016 in Port Alberni at the age of 88.
He was predeceased by his parents, Anna his beloved wife of 48 years in 2008 and sister Angelina D’Angelo.
He will be profoundly missed by his children Peter, Ciro and Giulia; sisters Nina, Nunzia and Rosaria of Italy; sister-in-law Anna Noviello of Port Alberni and numerous nieces and nephews from near and abroad.
Giovanni arrived in Canada in 1957 from Ercolano, Italy. Later, Anna – the love of his life, joined him in Port Alberni where they were married and started a family. He proudly worked at the Alberni Plywood Mill for many years until his retirement. Giovanni’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a dedicated family man of extreme strength, courage and love and we will forever hold him in our hearts.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am, Saturday, October 8, 2016 from Notre Dame Holy Family Catholic Church, 4731 Burke Road with Father Peter Switzer officiating. Stories and condolences may be offered to the family at www.chapelofmemories.ca.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make donations in Giovanni’s name to the charity of their choice.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff who helped care for Giovanni at Westhaven and Echo Village in his final year.
