The Journey ~
As I begin my journey Where each must go alone.
I ask no grief or darkened rooms, No sad and mournful tone. Just celebrate the life I've had, With friends all gathered near. Smile at all the good times past But never shed a tear.
No tales of sadness do I want, No words of doubt or fear. For though in body I'll have gone, In spirit I am here.
I've lived a good and fruitful life, Blessed by heaven above. Been fortunate in friends I've had, Been loved and given love.
And though you cannot feel my touch, Nor earthly body see.
I will be there to comfort you Each time you think of me.
And surely, as the darkest night Retreats before the dawn. You'll come to know that even though I've left ... I am not gone.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, papa, friend, Gus Barrett on February 28, 2021 at the age of 90.
Gus was the last of the 4 Barrett boys; predeceased by his 3 brothers; and by his daughter, Janice Harper in 2010. He leaves behind his devoted wife Blanche; daughter Sharon (Al), son Bill (Caroline); his grandchildren Kelly, Andrew, Melissa, Nick, Alex and Sydney; his cherished great grandson Adam and his great grandson on the way. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews across the country who were near and dear to him.
Gus was born in Newfoundland and was proud of being a "Newfie".
He was a career man with the Federal Government and spent many years in the Yukon, the Alaska Border and B.C.
Gus met and married his soul mate, Blanche in Dawson City in 1955 and the Yukon became his home. After many years in Whitehorse, he and his family moved to Port Alberni where he retired from Canada Manpower in 1985.
Gus was a poet and had written several books. He had a way with words and a genuine wit describing his many life's escapades. Gus and Blanche became residents at Heritage Place and he then moved to Echo Village until his passing. He was a true gentleman and will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
Special thanks to Dr. Puts for the many times he got Gus home to his loving wife Blanche to give them a little more time together. Also, many thanks to all the wonderful staff and residents at Heritage Place and Echo Village.
